Since then, he has been involved in research, design, and development of low-noise and nonlinear microwave circuits and systems at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (where he designed the receivers for the Very Large Array), Hughes Aircraft Co., TRW, the Aerospace Corp., and the UCLA Department of Electrical Engineering. Subsequently he worked as an engineering consultant and founded Nonlinear Technologies, Inc., a consulting company, in 1993. He is also a principal of Applied Wave Research, Inc.
Dr. Maas is the author of Microwave Mixers (Artech House, 1986 and 1992), Nonlinear Microwave Circuits (Artech House, 1988; second edition 2003), The RF and Microwave Circuit Design Cookbook (Artech House, 1998) and Noise in Linear and Nonlinear Circuits (Artech House, 2005). From 1990 until 1992 he was the editor of the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques and from 1990-93 was an Adcom member and Publications Chairman of the IEEE MTT Society. He received the Microwave Prize in 1989 for his work on distortion in diode mixers and the MTT Application Award in 2002 for the invention of the FET resistive mixer. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
Dr. Mehdi F. Soltan
Dr. Mehdi F. Soltan is currently a Consulting Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. In the past he has served as President and CEO of Sunnyvale based Tavanza, Inc. and also held engineering positions at Rockwell Semiconductor Systems in RFIC design and at ICII in communications systems & DSP engineering.
Dr. Youngoo Yang
Dr. Youngoo Yang received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the Pohang University of Science and Technology(Postech), Pohang, Korea, in 2002. From 2002 to 2005, he was with Skyworks Solutions Inc., Newbury Park, CA, where he designed power amplifiers for various cellular handsets. Since March 2005, he has been with the School of Information and Communication Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University, Suwon, Korea, where he is currently an assistant professor.
Dr. Sang-soo Lee
Sang-Soo Lee is an expert in CMOS analog/RF product development. With over 25 years of engineering and management experience in developing HDD, DSL, CMOS image sensors, Serdes, RFICs, and semiconductor memories, his past roles include VP at SuVolta and SK Hynix, CTO at Pixelplus, Director at LSI Logic, and Manager at LG Semicon. He played a key role in successfully listing Pixelplus to NASDAQ in 2005. He served IEEE CICC Technical program committee during 1997-2010 and has published numerous technical papers in IEEE journals and conferences. He received the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1993.
Dr. Farbod Behbahani
Farbod Behbahani, Ph.D. received his B.S. (hon.) and M.S. (hon.) degrees from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 1991 and 1993 respectively and Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 1999. From 1992 to 1995, he worked for Philips Semiconductors as an RF and Analog Integrated Circuit Designer. From 1999 to 2002, he was the Director of Engineering at Valence Semiconductor Inc., Irvine, CA, where he led several RF CMOS radio development, including the first award winning fully CMOS GPS radio product. In 2004, he founded SaberTek Inc., a wireless IP provider focused on mmWave/RF/analog product development. SaberTek has successfully developed wireless transceivers IPs for various markets including cellular handset (GSM, WCDMA, LTE…), WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac), GPS, and cellular base station, many of them have been mass produced. He has received five U.S. and international patents and has several other patents pending. He is an author or co-author of more than 25 technical papers in the area of integrated circuit design and communication systems. Dr. Behbahani was the recipient of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society Pre-doctoral Fellowship in 1997. He received the “best Ph.D. graduate award” from UCLA in 1999 and the Young Scientist Award from the Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage in California in 1999. He also received “Blue Ribbon” award from “RF Design Magazine” and “Technology of the Year” award from “Wireless Design & Development Magazine” in 2001.
Dr. In-Chul Hwang
In-Chul Hwang received the B.S. , the M.S., and the Ph.D. degrees from Korea university, Seoul, South Korea, in 1993, 1995, and 2000, repectively. He was a Research Staff with the Coordinated Science Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2000 to 2001. From the end of 2001 to 2007, he was a senior engineer with Samsung Electronics, Kiheung, Korea, where he led a team involved with CMOS RFIC targeting for GSM/EDGE/WCDMA RF transceivers. He and his team successfully developed a direct-conversion receiver on CMOS process and a PLL-based polar transmitter that covers up to WCDMA. In 2007, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, South Korea, where he is now a tenured professor. Since joining the university, he has done several research projects focused on RF frequency synthesizers from GPS to LTE. The main achievements are on an inductor-less RF frequency synthesizer, a frequency synthesizer with reference spur calibration, and a digital PLL for RF frequency synthesis. These works have been published on IEEE journals and filed to the US patents. He also consulted many Korean RFIC companies to solve technical problems with PLL design. Dr. Hwang served as a reviewer for IEEE journals of JSSC, MWCL, and TCAS-II. He is a TPC chair for ICEIC 2016. He has been filed to “who’s who in the world” since 2006.
